I really enjoy this con mainly for the voice actor and animation-related panels. There’s unfortunately not much for Transformers fans in the way of guests or panels (and Stylin’ Online is usually the only dealer with TF merch), but Anime fans have their own Anime-Manga Track. It’s a great con with loads of entertainment value for all ages. (And beware of some of the vendors selling bootleg DVD product.)

Website: http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/
Location: 225 Baker Street Northwest, Atlanta, GA
Phone: (404) 581-4000
Details: A really great exhibit and especially fun for families. The “Ocean Voyager” exhibit alone is worth the price of admission — it’s as close as most of us will ever get to experiencing what it would be like to walk on the bottom of the ocean. And you get to touch a live shark too. Seriously. (Maybe not as part of the “Ocean Voyager” exhibit, but you still get to touch a live shark.) The 4D show is a little too kid-friendly and cheesy and is only recommended if you bring kids with you.

Future shows will be announced for Scott’s next “The Golden Age Radio Show” — a live radio theatre-style production featuring scripts from classic “old time radio” shows and showcasing students from his workshops. (And I’m both proud and honored to say I’ve performed in this show as well.)

* * * Since “The Atlanta Fandom Guide” is not actively updated, I suggest browsing the following websites for calendars covering all Atlanta-area events:

– The AJC’s Access Atlanta:
http://www.accessatlanta.com/atlanta-events/
Details: Covers all ATL-area events.

– Atlanta.net:
http://www.atlanta.net/visitors/calendarofevents.aspx
Details: Covers all ATL-area events, dining, attractions, etc.

– AtlantaBuzz:
http://www.atlantabuzz.com/
Details: Covers all ATL-area events, organized by categories and cities.

– Atlanta Retro:

List compiled by Craig “Voiceroy” Crumpton

Special thanks to the TFW2005.com and AWA-CON.com members who have offered updates and contributions since this list was first created in 2006.

And props to Ken Arromdee — wherever you are — for his Atlanta, GA Anime/Manga Shopping Guide which sadly is no longer updated as of 2003. And for some semi-interesting history on fandom in Georgia, check the 1997 Southern Fandom Confederation Handbook & History.
